La Bastide is a 17th Century farmhouse set in 4.5 hectares of meadows and maquis in the hills of Pays de Cocagne in the Tarn, an unspoiled area of Southern France which lies between Toulouse, Carcassonne and Albi, making it very convenient for fly-drive holiday makers looking for self-catering accomodation.

Why choose the Tarn? The Tarn is where the Mediterranean and Atlantic climates meet. Its equitable climate is drier than the Dordogne and not as fiercely hot as Provence. You will find far fewer English residents here than in the Dordogne. Stay in a Tarn gite and you’ll be living in a traditional corner of the South of France.

Ian and Jos Bryant have arranged La Bastide as three self-catering gites. These can be rented individually; or the Farmhouse gite and Grange gite linked to form one large gite; or rent all three gîtes, when the Cottage gite provides a tranquil refuge for grandparents, 70m away from the farmhouse, if booking the whole rental property for a large family group !

We live on the edge of the property out of your way but on hand when you need us. Experienced gite renters recognise the advantage of booking with nearby owners who can deal with late arrivals, advise on doctors restaurants local services and activities, and respond promptly to any problems. We also have Broadband and guests can access our WiFi connection.

We provide a free ‘Welcome Pack’ of tea, coffee, milk, sugar, bread, jam, butter, egg,s biscuits, condiments, water, beer and wine. We will do a shop for guests expecting to arrive after the supermarkets have closed. Or Jos can prepare a three course supper and leave it in your gite.

Low cost flights to France make it is easy to tailor make your own France fly drive package.
Easyjet, Jet2, BMI Baby/British Midland, Flybe, Euroair fly to Toulouse (an hour's drive) and Ryanair flights to Carcassonne (75 minutes drive) but remember to book early for the lowest air fares, especially on Easyjet and Jet2 flights to Toulouse and Ryanair flights to Carcassonne. We now offer a choice of three changeover days for the Farmhouse outside peak season to help you take advantage of the best airline fares.
